Moving to a new home can be an exciting experience. However, it also comes with potential headaches if you don't take the proper precautions with your belongings. 

Your TV is especially vulnerable to damage if not handled correctly during the moving process.

When hiring a moving company across Canada to assist with your relocation, be sure they are properly equipped to safely transport large, awkward items like flatscreen televisions. 

Provide exact dimensions and weight so they bring the right equipment and number of movers. You'll also want to purchase a specialized TV box designed specifically for keeping screens secure while in transit.

Use the Original Box and Pack Styrofoam

If you still have the original box and styrofoam packing material your TV arrived in, reuse these when packing for your move. 

The manufacturer box was designed to handle that specific make and model during shipping. 

The molded styrofoam pieces will prevent your screen from shifting around or landing at an odd angle.

• If you don't have the OEM packaging, purchase a television box similar in size online or from a moving store. Make sure it is deep enough to account for the depth of your set.

Protect the Screen Itself

Before placing your TV in its box, you'll want to take a few extra steps to protect the fragile display. 

Be sure the screen is completely clean and dry first. Purchase a TV screen protector kit that includes protective film or foam pads to place over the entire display surface.

• This absorbs impact and prevents damage from pressure caused by packing materials.

Use Packing Paper and Foam Peanuts Liberally

Once your TV is layered in protective film or foam pads, place it inside its designated box. Fill empty space in the box liberally with packing paper to stabilize the TV and prevent shifting. Foam peanuts are also great for absorbing vibration and keeping the set stationary.

*Be mindful of weight distribution and balance when packing protective materials so one side doesn't become too heavy.

Seal Box Securely

Use extremely durable packing tape designed for heavy items to seal the TV box completely shut on all sides and edges. 

Make an effort to lift and gently tilt the box in various angles to test for sounds of internal movement. If you hear the TV sliding around inside, open and adjust with more protective materials.

*Additionally, ensure the box is marked with "fragile" stickers so movers are alerted to gently handle with care.

By taking the appropriate precautions when packing up your television set for a move, you can have peace of mind knowing it will safely arrive at your new destination undamaged. 

Don't cut corners purchasing cheap boxes or skimping on protective materials to save a quick buck - it will end up costing you more money and headaches for screen repairs or total replacement!
